holden defunct Page 553

Short answer: yes—Holden is defunct as a brand in Australia. GM ended local manufacturing in 2017 and retired the Holden badge in 2020, with dealers wrapping up new-car sales soon after. The upside? GM committed to at least 10 years of parts, service and warranty support, so your Commodore isn’t suddenly an orphan. If you’re after new metal, that baton’s largely been passed to GM Specialty Vehicles bringing in Chevrolets, while the Holden name enjoys a well-earned rest.
