Registering a home-built trailer in Tasmania is less “Mad Max” and more paperwork and measuring tape.

Make sure it meets VSB1 standards (lights, reflectors, safety chains, and brakes if ATM exceeds 750 kg), keep receipts, take clear build photos, and get a weighbridge ticket.

Apply for a VIN (or have one issued/stamped by an approved identifier), book an inspection via Service Tasmania/transport inspectors, and bring ID, receipts, weight proof, and evidence of compliance.

Pass the inspection, pay the rego and plate fees, bolt the plate on, and try not to gloat at store-bought trailers.
