ISOFIX is the car-seat equivalent of plug-and-play: two hidden metal bars at the seat base, and your child seat’s connectors click straight on with a solid ‘thunk’.
In Australia you must also use the top tether, hooking the strap to the anchor behind the seat and tensioning it until the seat moves less than about 2 cm at the belt path.
Push the seat firmly back, latch both ISOFIX connectors, look for the little green indicators, then snug the top tether—no wobbles, no tilt.
Don’t mix methods: it’s either ISOFIX + top tether or a seatbelt install + top tether, never both, unless the manufacturer explicitly says so.
Most modern cars (roughly 2013-on) have ISOFIX points; check your owner’s manual for their location and the correct anchor to use.
If the seat still shuffles about like a kookaburra on a line, re-fit it or visit a fitting station—your sanity and the kid’s safety will thank you.
