In Victoria, there’s no grace period for driving—once your rego expires, the car is unregistered and must stay put until you pay.
You can still renew it for up to 3 months after the expiry date; pay within that window and you’re back on the road.
Let it go beyond 3 months and the registration is cancelled, so you’ll need to re‑register (usually a Roadworthy Certificate, fresh fees, and extra paperwork).
Insurance/TAC cover doesn’t apply while unregistered, so that “quick trip” can become an expensive stroll.
Set a reminder, pay VicRoads promptly, and save yourself the drama and fines.
