If you’re just visiting NSW in a VIC-registered car, you can drive it while the Victorian rego and CTP are current—no drama, no secret handshake.
Once you become a NSW resident or the car is garaged mainly in NSW, you generally have 3 months to switch it to NSW registration.
That means a safety inspection (Blue Slip), a NSW CTP (Greenslip), paying the fees and stamp duty, then cancelling the VIC rego for any eligible refund.
Keep proof of current registration handy, make sure the plates match the database, and don’t ignore toll notices unless you fancy pen-pal letters from debt collectors.
