how long do roadworthy certificates last qld

In Queensland it’s called a Safety Certificate, and it isn’t forever—no matter how clean the tyres look.

For private sellers it’s valid for 2 months or 2,000 km from issue, whichever comes first; for licensed motor dealers it’s 3 months or 1,000 km.

You’ll need one to sell a registered vehicle, transfer rego to a new owner, or re‑register a vehicle in QLD, with a few exemptions for things like genuinely unregistered sales.

It must be current at the time the vehicle is offered for sale, not just when you finally hand over the keys.

If you’re cutting it fine, get a fresh inspection—Transport and Main Roads aren’t big on “close enough”.
