how long does qld roadworthy last

In Queensland, a Safety Certificate (the "roadworthy") is valid for 2 months or 2,000 km from the issue date for private sales, whichever comes first.

If the seller is a licensed motor dealer, it’s 3 months or 1,000 km, again whichever shows up first.

You need a current certificate before offering a registered vehicle for sale or transferring rego—no “she’ll be right” shortcuts.

If it expires, you’ll need a fresh inspection; sadly, it doesn’t refill like a servo coffee.

Some edge cases apply (trailers, unregistered vehicles), so check Queensland’s official guidance if you’re swimming in the grey areas.
