In Victoria, a Roadworthy Certificate (RWC) isn’t a fixed-price item—licensed testers set their own fees.
For a typical passenger car, expect the inspection to cost around $150–$300, with utes and SUVs sometimes higher; motorcycles are often $80–$160.
That’s just the inspection—any repairs to make it pass are extra, and parts and labour can dwarf the test fee faster than you can say "bald tyres".
New cars generally don’t need an RWC for registration transfer, but if one is required (rare), the fee is much the same; for used cars, budget the figures above plus any fix-ups.
The certificate is usually valid for 30 days in VIC, so time it close to sale or transfer.
