An RWC (roadworthy) in Australia isn’t one-size-fits-all; the price depends on your state and the tester.
As a ballpark: in Victoria expect roughly $180–$300 for a light vehicle, in NSW an eSafety/pink slip is about $40–$50, and in Queensland a Safety Certificate is around $90; other states may not require one for private sales unless defect or transfer rules trigger an inspection.
That fee is just the inspection—any repairs to pass are extra, and some testers charge for retests.
For new cars, the dealer bakes compliance and inspections into the on-road costs; for used cars, budget the RWC plus whatever fixes the inspector inevitably finds.
Ring a local tester or check your state authority for the current figures before you hand over the keys—or your wallet.
