Short answer: your car can tow only as much as the lowest limit among braked towing capacity, towbar rating, and maximum towball download allows.
Check your owner’s manual, the build/compliance plate, and the towbar plate for the numbers.
In Australia, unbraked capacity is typically 750 kg; anything heavier needs trailer brakes, and your car’s GVM and GCM must not be exceeded.
Aim for a ball load around 8–10% of trailer weight (within the stated maximum), distribute weight evenly, and factor in people, cargo, and accessories.
If any rating disagrees, obey the smallest one and you’ll stay on the right side of physics and the law. Consult official documentation for exact figures.
