Replace tyres when the tread hits 1.5 mm (Australia’s legal minimum), though for wet grip many swap at about 3 mm.
Age counts too: have them inspected after 5–6 years and replace by around 10 years regardless of tread.
Cracks, bulges, cords showing, or punctures near the sidewall mean it’s time—if it looks dodgy, it is.
Most sets last roughly 40,000–60,000 km, but hot roads, heavy utes and enthusiastic right feet will trim that quickly.
Rotate and balance every 10,000 km, keep pressures on point, and get an alignment after pothole encounters and kerb “hugs.”
When in doubt, ask a reputable tyre shop—rubber is cheaper than guard rails.
