how old to sit in front seat vic Page 864

In Victoria, the front seat isn’t a free-for-all: kids under 4 years must not sit in the front if the car has two or more rows. Children aged 4 to under 7 can sit up front only when all rear seats are already occupied by kids under 7, and they must use an approved booster with the correct anchorage and seatbelt. From 7 years up, they’re allowed in the front, but the back seat is still the safer spot until about 12 because airbags and small faces are a poor combo. If you must put a child in front, slide the seat back as far as practical and belt them in properly—no “short trip” exceptions. Obey the rules unless you enjoy fines and demerits more than ice cream on a hot day. Check the latest VicRoads guidance if your car is unusual or imported.
