Changing number plates in Victoria isn't as simple as slapping on a new set. First, you need to surrender your current plates to VicRoads. Then, apply for new plates either online or at a VicRoads customer service centre. You'll need proof of identity and vehicle registration details, and yes, there’s a fee involved (expect around $50 to $80 depending on the plate type). Remember, personalised plates have different rules and fees.
Once you get your new plates, you must fit them securely on your vehicle as per regulations. And no, just sticking them on with double-sided tape won’t cut it.
