Start with a plan: set a budget, choose a purpose (daily, track, show), and resist the urge to buy shiny bits before tyres and brakes. Check the rules—Australian Design Rules and state regs—because big changes (engine swaps, major suspension mods) may need engineer certification, and your insurer wants to know. Upgrade in smart order: quality tyres, fresh pads/rotors, then suspension, then power (intake, exhaust, a conservative tune)—and no, chopped springs aren’t “race spec.” Keep cosmetics legal and reversible: wheels within diameter/track limits, ADR-compliant lighting, and don’t forget a proper alignment. Use reputable shops, get dyno and alignment printouts, and keep receipts so future-you (or the next owner) doesn’t swear at present-you.
