In Queensland, to get your car learner licence (Class C), be at least 16, complete PrepL (the online road-rules course) or the written test, prove your identity, pass an eyesight check, and pay the fee at Transport and Main Roads.
Once issued, slap those L plates on, keep your BAC at 0.00, and have a supervisor with a valid open licence in the passenger seat—no solo heroics.
If you’re under 25, you’ll need to record 100 hours of supervised driving including 10 at night in an approved logbook (the TMR app is your new best frenemy); over 25s are generally exempt from the logbook slog.
Before going for your practical test, you must also pass the Hazard Perception Test while on your Ls—yes, more screens, but fewer surprises.
Do those bits properly and you’ve got your Ls; do them stylishly and you might even avoid dad’s white-knuckle grip on the door handle.
