how to get new plates for a car Page 26

Getting new plates for a car in Australia is a job for your state or territory transport authority (Service NSW, VicRoads, TMR QLD, DOT WA, etc.).

Apply online or at a service centre with photo ID, your rego details, and proof of ownership; if the plates were stolen, file a police report first.

Pay the fee and choose standard replacements, remakes, or personalised plates, and be ready to surrender the old ones if you’re swapping styles.

Don’t drive around unplated—get a temporary permit or wait until the new plates are in your hot little hands and bolted on.

Fit them with proper screws (anti-theft if you’re fancy) and keep the receipt, because bureaucracy loves paperwork almost as much as we love a clean install.
