Spilled bleach? Step away from the vinegar, hero—mixing acids or ammonia with it makes chlorine gas, which is as fun as a flat tyre in a hailstorm.
Ventilate hard, glove up, and dilute: blot the spill, then flush the area with plenty of cold water, repeating until the smell fades.
To neutralise residue, use a chlorine neutraliser like sodium thiosulfate (sold as pool/aquarium dechlorinator), or dab with 3% hydrogen peroxide on colourfast surfaces and fabrics—test first.
On skin, rinse under running water for at least 15 minutes; if it’s in your eyes or you feel crook, get medical help immediately.
For laundry mishaps, rinse thoroughly, spot-treat with hydrogen peroxide, then wash separately with lots of water; the colour loss is permanent, sadly.
Dispose of small amounts by diluting heavily with water down a well-ventilated drain if local rules allow, and never mix it with other cleaners—ever.
