Ah, the sacred rite of passage that is getting your Learner’s Permit (Ls) in New South Wales. First, you’ll need to be at least 16 years old and pass a Driver Knowledge Test (DKT), which is basically a multiple-choice exam on road rules and safety. Once you pass, you’ll get your Ls, allowing you to drive under supervision. Remember, you must display the big red L plates on your car, obey the zero blood alcohol limit, and avoid mobile phone use while driving. You’ll also need to log a certain amount of supervised driving hours (minimum 120 hours, including 20 at night) before you can move on to the provisional licence.
For the test, check out the official Service NSW website or swing by ServiceCentral to book your slot. And if you want to skip the boring bits, some driving schools offer prep courses to get you through the DKT with flying colours.
