how to reverse a camper trailer Page 2

Reversing a camper trailer is like herding a shopping trolley in reverse—possible, with patience.

Start in an empty car park, line up straight, extend your mirrors, and go slow—creep, don’t leap.

Put your hand at the bottom of the wheel: move your hand left and the trailer’s back will go left (and vice versa), using tiny inputs.

Favour reversing into the driver’s side for better visibility, and stop the moment it begins to jack-knife; pull forward to straighten, then try again.

Use a spotter or cones, keep the drawbar and trailer brakes happy, and select low range/creeper gear if you’ve got it—mechanical sympathy beats bravado.

Practice makes passable: after ten minutes, you’ll look less like a three-point-turn mime act and more like a campsite whisperer.
