Selling a car privately in NSW is part car wash, part paperwork tango.
Clean it, photograph it in daylight, set a realistic price using local listings and a PPSR check, and write an honest ad that doesn’t read like a fairy tale.
For the legal bits: have proof of ownership and rego, clear any finance, and consider a recent eSafety inspection (pink slip) for buyer confidence—handy, though not mandatory to sell.
When it’s sold, insist on secure payment, give a signed receipt, and immediately lodge a Notice of Disposal with Service NSW so fines and tolls don’t follow you home.
Buyer then transfers rego via Service NSW; you remove e-tags, cancel subscriptions, and wipe your data from Bluetooth and nav.
If it’s unregistered, the buyer will need a blue slip and a green slip before driving away; once your Notice of Disposal is lodged, you’re done.
