how to sell car privately wa Page 113

Set your price, clean the car till it glints like a Perth summer, and write a clear ad with VIN, rego and honest photos.

In WA there’s no routine roadworthy for private sales, so the paperwork is king: give the buyer a signed receipt (VIN, odometer, price), the service history and both keys.

Lodge a Notification of Change of Ownership via DoTDirect promptly, and keep a copy; the buyer then completes the transfer and pays stamp duty.

Only hand over keys once cleared funds land (Osko/instant transfer or verified bank cheque), and meet in a safe, public spot.

Remove your e‑tag, wipe personal data from infotainment, and cancel insurance and any toll accounts after the sale is truly done.
