Start simple: play a clean test track and use balance/fade to isolate each speaker; if one sounds like a wet sock in a tuba, you’ve found the culprit.

• With the car off, check wiring and terminals; loose crimps cause drop-outs faster than a dodgy pub mic.
• Use a multimeter: most car speakers read around 3–4 Ω DC resistance for a nominal 4 Ω driver; infinite or 0 Ω means the thing’s cactus.
• Feed test tones (say 40–60 Hz for bass, 1–4 kHz for mids) at low volume to sniff out rattles and distortion, then gently turn it up.

If everything measures fine but still sounds tragic, the head unit or amp may be the villain, or the door’s basically a maraca—add deadening and try again.

Keep volumes sensible unless you enjoy the aroma of toasted voice coils.
