In WA, the handover dance is simple: seller submits a Notification of Change of Ownership and the buyer lodges the transfer—ideally online via DoTDirect—within 7 days. The buyer pays the transfer fee plus vehicle licence duty (stamp duty) based on the car’s dutiable value, and late transfers cop extra fees—because of course they do. Roadworthy certificates aren’t generally required in WA unless there’s a defect notice or the car’s unlicensed. Bringing in an interstate or unlicensed car? Expect an inspection and fresh licensing. Have ID, rego details, and a clean conscience—check PPSR to ensure there’s no finance hanging off it. Do the forms promptly and you’ll be cruising quicker than you can say “snag at Bunnings.”
