So you’ve dragged your Victorian-plated chariot across the border — congratulations, but the rego doesn’t follow you for free: you must register the vehicle in NSW via Service NSW.
Turn up (or start online) with proof of identity, proof of NSW address, the current Victorian registration papers and proof of ownership, plus a safety inspection if NSW requires one for your vehicle.
You’ll also need to arrange NSW Compulsory Third Party insurance (the notorious Green Slip) and pay registration fees and stamp duty — costs depend on age and value of the car.
Don’t forget to surrender your Victorian number plates to VicRoads and cancel the old registration; dual registrations are frowned upon by both governments and accountants.
