First, check your car actually has ISOFIX anchor points hiding between the seat base and backrest, then choose a seat that’s ISOFIX-compatible.
Push the seat firmly into the cushion and click both ISOFIX connectors in until the indicators go green, then attach and tighten the top tether—in Australia, it’s mandatory.
The seat should move less than about 2 cm at the belt path; if it jiggles like a jelly, start again.
Keep bubs rear-facing as long as they fit the height markers; only turn them when the seat says so.
Don’t mix ISOFIX and the seatbelt unless the seat explicitly allows it, and skip any dodgy add-ons that didn’t come with the restraint.
Finally, read both the car manual and the child-seat manual—because Uncle Kev’s “she’ll be right” isn’t a safety standard.
