Writing a cash receipt is less thrilling than a hot lap, but it keeps the wheels of paperwork from wobbling.
Include the essentials: date, a unique receipt number, seller’s name (and ABN if a business), buyer’s name, what was paid for, the amount in AUD, and the payment method (cash).
If GST applies, show the GST amount and clearly label it a “tax invoice”; if not, say “GST not applicable”.
Add both parties’ contact details and a signature or stamp, then keep a copy for your records like it’s the last sausage roll at the servo.
Example wording: “Receipt #00123, 14/08/2025 — Received AUD $350 cash from Jamie Lee for lawn‑mower (used) — Seller: ABC Tools (ABN 12 345 678 901) — GST $0.00 — Signature.”
