The HQ Holden was built from 1971 to 1974, launched in July ’71 and replaced by the HJ in October ’74—short reign, big legacy.
Across that run you got Belmont, Kingswood, Premier, Monaro and the One Tonner, proving Holden could do work boots and party shoes at once.
If you see a plate claiming HQ after ’74, either it’s a creative rebuild or someone’s telling tall tales at the servo.
In short: 1971–1974 is the proper HQ window—classic Aussie metal at its most, well, Holden.
