Installing a baby seat isn’t witchcraft, but it does punish guesswork—so read the car and seat manuals first.
Use a restraint that meets AS/NZS 1754, place it in the back seat, and attach the top tether to the correct anchor point (mandatory in Australia).
Secure with ISOFIX or the seatbelt path—never both unless the seat explicitly allows it—and tighten so there’s minimal side-to-side movement at the belt path.
For infants, keep it rear-facing as long as they fit; set harness height correctly and cinch the straps so you can’t pinch slack.
After installation, check the recline angle, ditch bulky clothing, and get an accredited restraint fitter to check your work if you’re unsure.
Your future self (and your spine) will thank you for doing it properly.
