international driver licence nsw

There’s no such thing as an “international driver licence” — in NSW you drive on your valid overseas licence, and if it isn’t in English you carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) or an official translation alongside it.

Visitors can drive only the vehicle classes their home licence allows, must follow NSW road rules, and need to keep the physical licence (and IDP/translation) on them.

If you become a permanent resident in NSW, you’ve got up to 6 months to transfer to a NSW licence or stop driving.

Licence conditions still apply here — automatic-only means still auto-only, and if your home licence is expired or suspended, you’re not driving, mate.
