If you take up residence in Victoria, you generally have 6 months from the date you become a resident to convert to a Victorian licence—no, they won’t forget. Temporary visa holders can usually keep driving on a valid overseas licence beyond six months, but you must carry your passport/visa and meet any equivalent restrictions (if you’re probationary overseas, behave like one here). You must be at least 18 to drive solo in Victoria, and police will expect your licence, translation/IDP and ID on the spot if asked.
