The Iridium GO is the cockroach of connectivity: not fast, but it works absolutely everywhere the sky exists.

Expect truly glacial data—about 2.4 kbps—so stick to compressed email, weather GRIBs, messaging and voice calls via the app; scrolling socials is a dream best left onshore.

Coverage is global on the Iridium network, battery lasts around 5–6 hours active, and the SOS features are reassuring when the map turns beige.

Hardware is rugged and pocket-brick simple, but plans aren’t cheap and you’ll need patience and a clear view of the sky.

If you want real data speeds, the newer Iridium GO! exec is pricier and bulkier but far quicker; the original GO remains the reliable budget workhorse.

For remote touring in Australia, it’s a solid safety net; expect email, coordinates and weather, not Netflix.
