Short answer: close cousins, not twins. In NSW, a pink slip is the eSafety check—an official roadworthiness inspection submitted electronically to Service NSW. Other states issue a Roadworthy/Safety Certificate (RWC) on paper, and the rules, forms and validity periods differ by state. You can’t swap a NSW pink slip for a QLD/VIC RWC (or vice versa) for rego—use the one your state demands. Pink slips are typically valid for about 6 months in NSW, while RWCs elsewhere have their own shorter timeframes. So yes, it’s a roadworthy inspection in spirit, but administratively they’re different beasts—because Australia loves doing the same thing eight different ways.
