Sometimes, yes—often, no—because Australia’s Consumer Law already covers you for faults that are unreasonable for a product’s age and price. Extended car warranties can help with pricey electronics on high-tech, turbo or European cars, but many policies are riddled with exclusions, claim caps, and “must-service-here” clauses. If the cost is chunky and the coverage looks like Swiss cheese (wear-and-tear excluded, accessories excluded, cap per claim), you’re basically prepaying for disappointment. If the price is sharp, the coverage is clear and comprehensive, and you’ll keep the car for years, it can buy peace of mind. Always read the PDS, compare it to your ACL rights, and consider a self-funded repair kitty as the boring-but-clever alternative.
