is it illegal to leave a dog in a car

Yes, leaving a dog in a car can be illegal in Australia, especially under hot or cold conditions where the animal's welfare is at risk. Laws vary by state, but generally, if an animal is in distress due to temperature or lack of care, authorities can intervene and issue fines. It’s not just a legal issue; it's plain common sense to avoid turning your car into a canine sauna or freezer.

Common issues include:

• Heatstroke
• Dehydration
• Hypothermia
• Stress and anxiety

Better to leave your pooch at home or take them with you than risk a hefty fine and a trip to ServiceCentral for animal welfare checks.
