Short answer: using PayID is generally safe; the name preview helps you confirm the recipient, and payments zip through the NPP/Osko rails faster than a barista’s eye-roll.
Long answer: crooks target people, not the rails—think fake invoices, marketplace pickup “mates”, and doctored “proof of payment” screenshots.
Only send money once you’ve verified the person independently, check the exact name that appears on the PayID lookup, and never ship or hand over goods until funds clear in your account.
PayID isn’t escrow, reversals are rare, and banks won’t rescue you from wishful thinking, so for big-ticket buys meet at a branch or use platform-verified payments.
