• Oil consumption from worn piston rings; watch the dipstick like a hawk and look for blue smoke on start-up or overrun.
• Valvetrain tick on cold start; sometimes harmless, sometimes a hint of sludge or poor oiling.
• Intake manifold and rocker cover gasket leaks leading to vacuum leaks and oily smells.
• Coil packs and spark plug tube seals causing misfires when oil pools in the wells.
• EGR/throttle body carbon build-up causing rough idle and hesitation.
• Timing belt and water pump due around 100,000 km; neglect risks an expensive valve-meets-piston moment.
• Intermittent cam/crank sensors causing stalling or no-start when hot.

Service history with regular 5–10k km oil changes is your best friend, along with a compression/leak-down test. Budget for fixes and you’ll have a willing workhorse; ignore the warnings and it’ll drink oil like a uni share-house on trivia night.
