James Dean died on 30 September 1955 from injuries sustained in a car crash near Cholame, California.
He was driving a Porsche 550 Spyder nicknamed "Little Bastard" when another car turned left across his path, causing a head-on collision.
The official cause of death was massive trauma, including a broken neck; his passenger survived with serious injuries.
It was ruled an accident—more bad timing and visibility than any Hollywood curse, despite what the campfire stories like to sell.
