jump start flat battery

Flat battery? Time for the noble art of jump‑starting.

  • Park nose‑to‑nose, engines off, park brakes on; red clamp to the dead battery’s +, other red clamp to the donor’s +.
  • Black clamp to the donor’s −, last black clamp to a clean, unpainted metal point on the dead car (not its battery −).
  • Start the donor, let it idle a couple of minutes, then try the dead car—give it another minute if it protests like a Monday morning.
  • Once running, remove the leads in reverse order and keep the revived car idling or take a 20‑minute drive to recharge.
  • If it’s a hybrid, EV, or stop‑start system, use the marked jump points in the manual or call roadside assist—guesswork can get expensive.

If it dies again quickly, the battery’s likely cactus or the alternator’s on strike.
