Kids in car seats: not a vibe, a legal must, and your best bet against physics.
In Australia, use a rear-facing seat from birth to at least 6 months (longer if they still fit), then a forward-facing seat with an inbuilt harness from 6 months to 4 years, and a booster with a properly adjusted seatbelt from 4 to 7 years.
They’re ready for the adult belt only when they pass the 5-step test—usually around 145 cm, not just “because they’re 7”.
Look for the AS/NZS 1754 approval label, install the top tether, and use ISOFIX if the seat supports it.
Back seat is safest; avoid the front seat for kids under 12, and under 7s up front only if the rear is full of younger kids.
If in doubt, get a professional fitment check and consult your state road authority—your future self will thank you when the brakes do their dramatic bit.
