l plate passenger rules vic Page 304

In Victoria, L‑plate drivers can carry passengers—there’s no special cap on numbers—so long as a supervising driver with a full licence sits in the front passenger seat.

Everyone must be in a proper seat with a seatbelt (or an approved child restraint), and the learner keeps those big yellow Ls on and a 0.00 BAC.

The P‑plate “one peer passenger” business doesn’t apply to learners, so your mates can ride along if there are legal seats.

The supervisor needs to be fit to drive and actually supervise, not nap, text, or treat it like a rideshare.

Normal road rules still apply: no mobile phone use for the learner, and obey the posted speed limits.

Short version: passengers are fine; bring a calm co‑pilot and enough seatbelts for every backside.
