landcruiser dpf problems Page 12

The LandCruiser’s DPF can be a grumpy roommate if your driving is all short trips and no stretch of highway, so soot builds up and the dash lights throw a tantrum. The fix is usually proper regenerations, the latest ECU software, and sticking to the right oil rather than blaming the car’s horoscope.

  • Short-trip use causes incomplete regens and blockages; give it a decent highway run to trigger an active regen.
  • Faulty differential-pressure or exhaust temperature sensors can cause warnings; updated sensors/ECU software often cure repeat offenders.
  • Excess soot and fuel dilution from frequent regens; use low-ash oil and consider shorter service intervals if mostly city driving.

If it’s already in limp mode, a dealer can perform a forced regen and check for leaks or cracks (some 70 Series have seen this). Keep service records—certain issues have been covered by campaigns or goodwill repairs in Australia.
