The LDV D90 takes the value-for-money sledgehammer off-road and swings it with more finesse than you’d expect.
On 4WD variants you get a proper low-range transfer case, terrain modes and hill descent control, so rough trails, sand and rutted fire roads are very much on the menu.
Its stock tyres are road-biased and the overhangs can nibble at approach and departure angles, so it’s happier playing adventurer than mountain goat.
The diesel’s chunky torque suits steep climbs and towing better; the petrol will do it, but with more revs and less grace.
Ride can get a bit jiggle-happy on corrugations, yet the cabin’s space and cameras make picking a line easy enough.
Fit some tougher rubber and basic underbody protection and the D90 becomes a budget-friendly weekend explorer, not a rock-crawling hero—but that’s rather the point.
