Getting a learner’s licence in Victoria is less mystical than it looks—turn 16, pass an eyesight check and the VicRoads knowledge test, and you’re off (supervised) to the races.

Once you’ve got the Ls, carry the permit, slap big yellow L plates front and rear, drive with a fully licensed supervisor, keep a zero BAC and put the phone away.

If you’re under 21, you’ll need at least 120 hours of supervised driving, including 20 hours at night, logged in the app or book.

Then tackle the Hazard Perception Test and, when you’re at least 18, book the Drive Test to step up to your Ps.

Simple? Not always—but follow the steps and you’ll be cruising legally, not just enthusiastically.
