m hybrid system Page 589

The M Hybrid System typically refers to BMW's mild hybrid technology designed to improve efficiency and performance. It uses a 48-volt electric motor that assists the petrol or diesel engine, providing smoother start-stop function and a slight power boost. This setup helps reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions without the complexity or cost of a full hybrid or electric vehicle.

Key features include an integrated starter-generator, a lithium-ion battery, and regenerative braking. It’s not meant to let you drive on electric power alone, but it does make the whole driving experience feel more refined and efficient.
