The Maine Coon cat is the gentle giant of the feline world, boasting a majestic mane and a personality as big as its paws. Weighing up to 9 kg and stretching over 1 meter long, these cats are both impressive and affectionate. Known for their tufted ears and bushy tails, they’re rugged enough to handle the outdoors but prefer the comforts of your couch. Expect a lifespan of 12-15 years and a coat that requires regular brushing lest it turn into a feline dreadlock. New Maine Coons can cost anywhere from $800 to $2,000 AUD depending on pedigree, while used/adopted ones might be found cheaper on sites like PuppyList or Tradingpost. Remember, these cats demand attention and a fair bit of grooming, so don’t bring one home if you prefer a low-maintenance companion.
