If your Mazda 3 has the older MZD Connect (roughly 2014–2018), the neatest upgrade is the genuine Apple CarPlay/Android Auto retrofit kit—new USB hub plus firmware—usually around AUD $600–$900 fitted. It keeps the factory screen, steering-wheel controls and reverse camera, and doesn’t look like a dodgy tablet glued on at the lights. For 2019-on BP models you already have CarPlay/AA; add a wireless adapter (about AUD $100–$250) or an upgraded hub if you want faster charging, and call it a day. Older BL (2009–2013) cars suit a quality double-DIN head unit with fascia kit and CANBUS harness—budget roughly AUD $700–$1,500 installed. Avoid bargain-basement Android units with mystery firmware; lag, hiss and flaky Bluetooth are a fast track to buyer’s remorse. Whatever you choose, get a pro to wire it, retain the factory mic/USB where possible, and keep the warranty gods happy.
