mazda fined Page 385

Yes, Mazda Australia copped a fine—though not for speeding.

In March 2024, the Federal Court ordered Mazda to pay $11.5 million after it misled customers about their consumer guarantee rights when their cars had recurring faults.

The ACCC’s case showed Mazda nudged several buyers into repeated repairs instead of refunds or replacements they may have been entitled to.

No models were blacklisted, but the court made it clear that warranty waffle doesn’t trump Australian Consumer Law.

If a car has a major failure, you can ask for a refund or replacement rather than endure endless parts roulette.

Keep records, put everything in writing with the dealer, and escalate to the ACCC or your state fair trading body if needed.
