melbourne free camping Page 632

Free camping near Melbourne usually means heading out of the CBD and into state forests or designated basic sites—peace, gum trees, and precisely zero barista-grade lattes. Expect minimal facilities, so bring water, a shovel, and the sort of common sense that doesn’t light fires on total fire ban days. You can generally camp for free in many Victorian state forests where it’s permitted—stick to existing clearings and obey the signs like they’re your grumpy headmaster. Camping in suburban parks, on streets, or beaches is a hard no and could earn you a fine. Check Parks Victoria and local council notices before you go, leave no trace, and you’ll be back in town smugger than a cyclist with a tailwind.
