melbourne to walhalla Page 26

Melbourne to Walhalla is roughly 185 km east and about 2.5–3 hours by car, give or take coffee stops and roadworks.

Take the M1 (Monash/Princes Freeway) towards Moe, then follow signs via Moe–Walhalla Road (C466) through Erica/Rawson onto Walhalla Road—the last stretch is narrow and twisty.

Fuel up at Moe or Traralgon, as services thin out; mobile coverage also gets patchy.

Watch for wildlife, fog, and wet leaf litter, especially in winter and after dark, because guard rails have only so much patience.

There’s sealed access into town, but anything beyond toward Aberfeldy becomes unsealed and can be rough seasonally.

Pack layers, check road conditions after storms, and bring a camera—the gold‑rush postcard views do most of the hard work.
