mitsubishi outlander 2.2 diesel problems Page 17

The Mitsubishi Outlander 2.2 diesel is generally sturdy, but a few gremlins do make cameo appearances—mostly the usual modern-diesel suspects.

• DPF clogging from short-trip driving, causing frequent regens, poor economy, or warning lights—regular highway runs help.
• EGR and intake manifold carbon build-up leading to rough idle, reduced power, and occasional smoke.
• Boost leaks or turbo actuator glitches triggering limp mode and an enthusiastic dash light display.
• Fuel-system niggles (filters, injectors, or sensors like MAF/MAP) causing hard starts or hesitation, especially with dirty fuel.

Stick to service intervals, use quality diesel, and check for recalls/service bulletins—cheap insurance against an unexpected date with a tilt tray.
